Walk & Talk Therapy
Movement is one of the four Pilars of Wellness and research shows that moving our bodies can be as effective as medication for depression, anxiety and various other mental health issues. Even just thirty minutes can enhance your mood, lower stress and improve sleep. It can however, be difficult to find the time in our schedules to engage is this incredibly beneficial modality. Walking, when combined with therapeutic processing can be a wonderful way to enhance the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions.
Great Reasons to Consider Walk and Talk Therapy:
There is a meditative quality to walking that adds to a person’s ability for deeper insight.
Walking is a bilateral activity (one in which our brain is engaging in a particular type of processing) and can allow for more creative solutions to problems and quicker processing of issues.
Research also states that getting outside and connecting with nature is another way of improving mood.
How Does the Process Work?
Initially you will meet with your therapist in the office to discuss whether Walk & Talk Therapy is a good fit for your therapeutic goals. Some of this will depend on the modality needed to provide you with the best services. Once the initial intake is completed and treatment plan is set up, you’ll then be able to meet your therapist for your walking therapy sessions.
Continued review and re-evaluation of appropriateness of fit will occur over the course of the therapeutic relationship. Some modalities of therapy, such as EMDR and ART cannot be conducted outside of the office.
