Walk & Talk Therapy

Walk & Talk Therapy is one really great option to consider when focusing on your journey in mental well-being. There are so many benefits to this form of care such as providing a meditative experience to therapy that can add to a persons' ability for deeper insight during processing and exploration of self. Walking is also considered a bilateral activity (one in which our brain is engaging in a particular type of processing) and can allow for more creative solutions to problems. In addition to these considerations, the research continues to find that getting outside and connecting with nature allows us to feel more content with improved mood. Check out the link at the bottom of this page to see what the University of Minnesota’s Earl E Bakken Center for Spirituality & Healing has to say about the benefits of being in nature. And lastly, let’s face it, even though you try hard, it is hard to find the time to move your body and get to therapy. We are constantly struggling with a life full of completing priorities, so for you, four words: Two. Birds. One. Stone.

How Does the Process Work?

Initially you will meet in the office to discuss if Walk & Talk Therapy is a good fit for your therapeutic goals. This typically takes a few sessions in order to really understand your concerns and also build and develop a good therapeutic relationship. The determination of Walk & Talk Therapy also depends on the modality needed to provide you with the best services. Your well-being is our number one priority and some modalities of therapy, such as EMDR and ART, cannot be conducted outside the office.

Frequently Asked Questions:

  • What if it’s raining? Unless it’s lightning we suggest you bring your umbrella!

  • What if it’s snowing? We live in Minnesota and we love winter. So...?

  • Will other people hear our conversations? It is possible. By nature of being outside the office, there is a chance others can hear our conversations.

  • What if we run into someone I know? We’ll take your lead. If you want to share with this person who we are and how awesome we are? Cool. You want to pretend you have no idea who we are? We’re good with that too. All of this will be discussed in initial appointments.

  • What if we run into someone you know? Again, we can discuss how you would like to handle this. We can certainly encourage the long lost friends reuniting story line. Whatever makes you most comfortable.
